I read the first draft of a script for what would have been Gladiator 2. Getting past that idea for a second, it was weird and not too bad, though it would probably work better as something other that a sequel for a film that didn't need one. And had the main character die.

So, has anyone seen Alice in Wonderland? I've heard mixed things about ( Read more... )

I suppose it depends on how fond you already are of (a) Alice in Wonderland in general and (b) Burton and Depp's sort of take on stories.

I've owned the book since grade school; and I found the film very, very delightful. It's very much in-the-spirit-of the original, despite the fact that Alice is older-- though the ending wasn't as perfect as it could have been.

I'm not terribly familiar with the book - it's always something I've meant to get around to reading but never quite managed. Maybe the film will make me.

Just be aware, then, before you go in-- no one in Wonderland is actually sane. That's a big part of its charm, really; but if you go in expecting much in the way of Earth Logic or concrete explanations for things, you'll end up disappointed.

(I mention this because my parents didn't recall reading the book, and were kind of thrown by compounded unexpected craziness; whereas expecting it, I was grinning from ear to ear. It's not 100% faithful to the original storylines, but the spirit is definitely there, and it's very gorgeous and atmospheric overall).

Given the trailer and various pieces I've seen I was preparing myself for some level of crazyness, but thanks for the warning nonetheless. :)

The only thing I have to compare it to is the Disney cartoon, which I never particularly liked - I always found it a bit freaky when I was younger.

I really liked it. It's probably not the best film ever but if you're familiar with the books it does a good job of interpreting them and it is terribly pretty. The costumes have Oscar written all over them :D
