I'm on this kick right now to try to exercise daily. This morning I tried to do a pilates DVD I own, but things fell apart when she did this whole series of exercises involving a stretchy rubber strap thing. So I bailed on finishing it and decided to walk down the huge new-age bookstore. They had a ton of yoga mats and bricks and various sizes of ( Read more... )

If you decide to run, spend the money and get some good shoes. Best to go to a running store and have them fit you instead of going to foot locker or something.

This is the first time I've actually had one near-by. I've heard such great things about the store, especially for convenience food. And now it's just a few blocks from me, so I'm sure I will learn to love it fast. :)

We buy maybe 75% of our groceries there. We don't do a whole lot of convenience food, but they have good and inexpensive organic food, nuts, butter, bread, etc. The only problem is that except for their bread and their ice cream, I have a hard time finding local food. A lot of their rice comes from Thailand for instance, and there's no reason for that, we have tons here.

I was VERY impressed by their nut selection. There was a whole aisle of nuts, mixed nuts, sliced nuts, candied nuts, and various combos of nuts/GORP type mixes. Definitely going back for that. I already have almonds, pumpkin seeds, and pecans at home though so I didn't get any. But I admired all the options. It was pretty amazing.

I didn't care for how most of the veggies were pre-packaged into plastic boxes.

Glad it's farmers market season. That's the best place to shop local/organic. ;)

I wish some of your exercise kickiness would rub off on me. :-P Ballet dancers have such long, lithe bodies; I'm envious. But pilates is supposed to have a similar effect, right?

Enjoy your treats you got at Trader Joe's. It all sounds delicious! Oh, and have fun with your mom!

P.S. Do a lap for me. I love to swim. :)

I love to swim too.

Pilates is good for toning and flexibility. I feel like it's similar to yoga, but for me it's more of a work-out and less of a relaxing/meditative thing.

I can't run for fitness -- shouldn't even run except when absolutely necessary, and when I have then, it's hurt afterwards -- but I walk like crazy. It hurts, but walking doesn't make me hurt worse, it just hurts a lot while I'm doing it, so I deal for the sake of fitness. You should come walking with us. :D
