I have now read this whole series and I'm totally in love with this pairing. I never thought about it in the context of the show, and some of the things you referenced went right by me what with not seeing it for the last two years, but this just felt so real for them. Both of their motivations, fears, hopes, and desires fit their canon personalities. Total squeeage, if I may say so. Most excellent.

Giles Fan reminded me that I have actually written a proposal scene before, but for a variety of reasons (many of them inconsistent), I'm choosing to say it doesn't count.

I absolutely adore you for creating something that was so deluged with...well...romance but didn't sog the characters up so much that they fell over in a limp heap. Tricky, that. Bravo!

The pairing makes sense, I think. Jim is the kind of guy to adore the woman he falls for, and Catherine is the kind of woman to blossom under that specific type of attention. They already care deeply about one another, and the fact that Jim loves kids in general is just another bonus.
