I don't have an Iphone, for the same reason, but I do have an Ipod touch, with the Kindle application, which was only about ten bucks to download, and allows me to shop the kindle store on amazon. I got it for the simple reason that alot of times I'm traveling for long periods of time or taking trips back home to see my parents. As an avid reader, putting a bunch of books that I intend to read in my luggage made it heavier and took up alot of space, especially since I have a toddler now who loves his toys and have to plan for him as well. I can take several books at once without having to take up much space of weight in my luggage.
Also, many classic novels, such as Frankensein's Monster and Dracula are offered for free and instantly downloaded to my Ipod Touch. So for convience sake, I do love the ebooks.
But I still have my paper books, for reading at home or just because. So I think it's just a matter of taste. I also believe that books will never EVER be obsolete. I just don't see that happening.
See, if I traveled more I would totally consider buying some sort of reading device because what with a lot airlines charging to check baggage I wouldn't want to take more than would fit in a carry on and a purse.
The free ebooks I can totally get behind, but at the same time I personally can never finish them that way. I tried with Emma and Pride and Prejudice and I just had to end up getting them in book form. Classics require a certain amount of concentration I can't seem to achieve in reading ebook format.
Hmm, I can see that. I guess I have some practise since most of my schoolwork is done online, since I am online student, but I haven't had that problem, at least not with the two I'm currently reading, Treasure Island and Picture of Dorian Gray. Could simply be because I've read both before and thus don't need the same amount of concentration, but then again, I don't know.
Yes, the price of travel is ridiculous, but even when I'm traveling by bus or train, I find it easier, as normal books in that siutation make me motion sick. I don't have that problem with ebooks, possible because of how I can hold my IPod. Still, I say it's your choice, which you choose. It can also help if you are low on space and are an avid book collector like me and my husband.
