It was almost awkward, coming to the house like this. With Esther gone, it almost seemed to have been abandoned. Of course, the city had been exceptionally quiet since the disturbance a couple of weeks ago, but even with that, there was a certain deadness to the air around the house. Compounding to that awkwardness was the very reason he'd even come: to see her. Not as an investigator or inquisitor, but as something very much like a friend ( ... )

A regular day she might decide to play a trick. Vanish off into a different part of the house. Use her haste to be outside and somewhere behind him with a witty remark. The pranks she could pull were always limitless. Such was a nature however that didn't suite her as of late. With the city notably lacking in spirit she was perhaps lacking her own. It didn't lead anywhere bad. Merely time to reflect on her thoughts.

To a degree she didn't expect that she would be left alone to her thoughts. It wasn't the nature of things in the city or at least not for prolonged periods of time. She could ignore him. In fact for a moment it crossed her mind but he didn't really deserve it. He had shown him reliable when need be and a good distraction from most anything. It was strange to think that they got along in their own little way. So she wasn't going to turn him away like she would near anyone else. "Yeah. I'm fine. Oh and the door is open if you want to come in."

He had been waiting for a "yeah, I am, and...?", a "what's it to you?", or even a sarcastic "aww, look, I think he likes me." An invitation to go inside wasn't entirely what he'd expected. It was entirely uncharacteristic of her.

He took it anyway, and let himself inside.

"Well, now I know you're not well at all. When did you start to become this hospitable?" he asked, smiling a bit.

She folded her arms over her chest, a brow raised and giving one of her rather typical questionably annoyed looks. It wasn't that she was bothered or frustrated by the comment. In fact in some way it was amusing but when would she ever admit anything like that? Not anytime soon, most likely. Things were liable to change however. When it came to discussions with Jade it was almost always prone to a strange twist or change somewhere down the line.

"Depends. When did you decide that you needed to come check up on me?"
