Vincent sat toward the back of the room, somewhere between a chunk of bedframe and what was probably a couch in those glorious days before he threw it across the room. He didn't raise his head when Veld came in--didn't have to, they might have been a bit slower but the weighting of those footsteps was still too familiar to mistake--or in the interim before he spoke.
At the question, he turned his head just slightly to one side, hair falling over his face, and bent one leg to bring the knee closer to his chest before circling it loosely with his human arm. The other, disproportion so much more obvious without his gauntlet to cover it or his cloak pulled over it, hung limp at his side.
That slight shift in position was all the response Vincent was going to give right now.
Veld knew he should have killed them both far before Sephiroth's birth. Would it have been out of line to take out the Science Department with the President?
If Elfe hadn't had shown up... would he have?
Veld had been so close that the answer to that question wasn't clear. It didn't quite matter now in more than a passing sentiment. He waited for a few minutes for Vincent to speak. Then Veld pressed again, but his voice was soft and gentle. "Vince, you holding up alright?"
Vincent almost flinched at the diminutive--how long had it been since someone called him "Vince" unironically? He put his eyes on the floor and didn't say anything for another long, long moment.

Then, "No."
Good enough for you, partner?
