Phoenix had promised Odette that he would see that Derek got the attention he needed. It was a promise that he could have considered fulfilled once he dropped Derek off in the medical bay, but for this case, because this man was important to Odette, he continued to check in on him occasionally. He was headed there again, in fact - not intending to stay long, but to confirm that other prince was continuing to heal well.
Honestly, he didn't expect this visit to be any different than the last.
It happened slow, consciousness gradualy easing its way back into his body. He still didn't have much feeling below his stomache, but feeling nothing was better than the pain. There had been pain, yes? The pain had been real, and not one of Rothbart's illusions.
He opened his eyes to the bright lights of the medical bay and blinked. When his eyes focussed he surveyed the strangeness of the room.
And then his eyes came to a giant metal... thing and he lost it.
The panicked yelling was the first clue Phoenix had that something was very wrong. His ears flicked up at the first shout and he quickly located the source.
It was coming from the medical bay.
In an instant, Phoenix was running down the hall. Rothbart. That was the first thought that flashed in his mind. The wizard had come back for Derek.
Derek would only have a few more moments to panic before Phoenix burst into the room.
He was scrambling in his bed when Phoenix burst in, trying to find a weapon of some sort. When Derek saw the other man he was familliar, almost, but the impossibly long ears unnerved him. Nevertheless, it was better than the metal creature that he had caught a glimpse of; had it been the Great Animal?
"Sir, I must warn you, there is a... a thing here, and I believe it is dangerous."
