The Coup ~sixth descent~

Jan 19, 2010 22:21

The elevator doors creak open to an entirely unfamiliar deck, both to the new explorers and those present for the last mutiny. The smell is chokingly foul, the offensive stench of formaldehyde, blood and death hanging in the air. The temperature is noticably colder than anywhere else on the ship ( Read more... )

Now this was more like it. Jane reaches into her bag and holds various utensils between her fingers.

"Usually rooms like this have zombies and stuff."

She cautiously makes her way to the camera.

It's a camera, Jane.

It stares blankly at her.

She picks it up and examines it briefly, seeing if it's got anything useful on it.

Gideon gags at the smell, taking a moment to double over and just. Focus on breathing without puking for a moment. After awhile, he's only slightly more accustomed to the smell, and he forces himself to move on.

He goes against all his fears and instincts and approaches the operating tables in the center of the room first. He rubs at his arms to fight the chill and then goes through the motions. He once again checks for anything at all that could clue him in that his bandmates has been there.

Eventually, his gaze goes to the video camera. He taps it, then tries to see if there's anything recorded on it.

A small screen unfolds and a scene begins to play.

Redd is in surgical blues and around the surgical table stand an assemblage of figures. Their skin is white as ash and they have no eyes, no nose, just a wide, lipless slit for a mouth and in hands far too small for their bodies they hold surgical implements.

There is a figure on the table, held down by wide leather straps. It seems to be a man and he's whimpering in fear.

"Dear, dear Captain," he whines. "Please, great Redd, mighty Redd, perfect, beautiful Redd, please, please don't cut me up, please! I'll tell you everything! I'll tell you where they're waiting for you!"

Gideon puts a hand over his mouth. For one thing, he's finally seeing the captain. But who is the man on the table? Gideon doesn't think he's ever seen him before... and who was waiting for Redd? The drummer, despite his sense of woe, keeps watching. Hopefully something else will come to light.

"Please! Please! Oh, Jesus, please help me!" cries the man in terror, yanking desperately against the restraints. Redd extends his hand to the side and one of the assistants places a scalpel into his gloved grasp.

"You've already told me everything, duckie," Redd says as he begins to cut the shirt off the man. "This will be your final act of service to the great Redd, hmmm?"

The man struggles, but it's useless.

"But I didn't tell you about the ambush! The ambush ahead!" he insists.

Redd pulls the scraps of cloth off and tosses them to the floor.

"Not for you!" the man cries. "To turn him against you! It's figuring out how you're powering the system! It knows what they were developing--"

Redd stops, taps the scalpel's blade against the heaving chest.

"But ducky, you just told me," Redd says with a light smile. "And I'm faster, hm? And it doesn't matter if the eagle is there. My two hounds willrip it to shreds--especially if I stop giving him his medicine. Now, then, let's begin~The man begins to scream in earnest as Redd ( ... )

[Upon leaving the elevator, Isabella has to stop herself from breathing for the sake of smell. Bloooood. She creeps closer.]

Lots and lots of blood! Care to poke around?

It's the underside of a mattress!

Nothing interesting under here but a Playboy from 1969.

The smell of this deck is far worse. Leonardo does cough this time, and almost gags. He knows that smell; though he'd never been this overpowered by it since that time on the slaver's ship. He ignores the beds -after catching sight of one of them- and heads directly for the cabinets. "Mike, stay close to me. Don't look at the beds."

Retching almost the second the doors open, Mikey covers his mouth and grimaces. "Dude, what died in--"

Too late Leo, he saw the blood. If it was possible for a turtle to go pale, he would have done it. Instead, he instantly went silent, turning his eyes away and following Leo without a word.

If it were Raph or Don, Leo might be tempted to answer something snarky. ...then again, if Raph were here, Leonardo wouldn't be vaguely horrified in the back of his mind that the blood on that bed could belong to his missing brother. He pushes the notion away and refuses to give it a second thought.

There are too many drawers; hundreds of them. There's no way they're going to make through even a fraction of them before they have to leave to start collecting the groups. Leonardo's gaze sweeps over the cabinets. "...check the ones with blood smears on them." And he moves forward to do just that, drawing one open quietly.

The drawer wheels open on smooth rails.

A dead woman, everything below her waist charred black. In death, at least, she seems a bit peaceful.

At this level, Jeremiah feels more at home than ever. So after some coercing from his bones the fish will poke onto the deck and try to make it through the death-filled air in the room. After all, to him if felt like the air was hard enough to walk through.

Might as well head to the center of it, too. And there are those tables, soaked in blood, ..and the camera. That scaled hand of his ( In case this thing decides to eat him) slides forward and waves in front of it. Nothing? Good.

Absolutely nothing. It's just a camera.

They're not filing cabinets, dear fishy. They're morgue cabinets. Sure you want to open one?
