Battle of the phones

Jul 12, 2010 18:11

I'm amazed of how far cell phones have come. The very first time I used a cellular phone was probably around the age of 4. I vaguely remember sitting in my dad's car, and him talking on this Centel-serviced car phone from time to time. One night he handed me the phone, and my mom was on the other end. Even with me being such a little guy, I thought ( Read more... )

Yes, the BB does seem to work well for such purposes..messages, emails, IM's BBM's, etc. Makes it a great work phone. In some ways the same could be said with my Treo, and that's what I've been using it for.

With my iTouch, I got spoiled with the amount of apps available for the thing. Echolink even has an app, where you can have QSO's using your iDevice. Pretty cool hehe.

About a year ago I almost sprung for the Storm. I was hoping that app support would increase but it didn't seem to take off like iOS/Android. Oh well..

Yeah so far I'm pointing towards iPhone/Android. They seem to have what I want and need in a smartphone. I'm starting to feel sorry for Palm/HP and BB

It's so unfortunate that WebOS is left behind to eat Apple's/Google's dust. It looked like a pretty neat OS. I'm not too hot for the handsets though.

With HP buying up Palm, I'm curious to see what they'll do with WebOS..it might get interesting.

So far, I resisted getting a smartphone because my not-so-smart phone can run Opera Mini and supports Twitter, Foursquare, etc, that way. Also, the replacement cost for this phone is low. (only around $25 for a used Razr on eBay, last I checked) I suppose I'll eventually have to upgrade anyway but not for a while.

Hehe, if it works for your purposes, then there's no real need to upgrade. I'll miss that ability to have inexpensive replacements..

I didn't realize that foursquare made an app that will run on the Razr?

It's Foursquare mobile website: http://foursquare.com/mobile/
Not the best user interface but it works. (mostly)

I've been running on a BB for just about 2 years now, its been a great phone but getting ready to upgrade to the android for the vastly expanded ability of the phone. I've played with both, and do like them both but I won't be making a change off of Verizon because I don't like AT&T and they don't have as good of service.

That's pretty much the reason why a lot of phone users won't go with a fruity device..it's the service! But, at the same time, I think that any other carrier would have the same problems with bandwidth if they had so many iPhone users polling out for email/IM/etc. Especially in densely populated areas.

I've had great luck with Verizon. The service costs a little more, but it works. Too bad you can't use the CDMA handsets in European markets, who knows if this upcoming 4G tech will make that a moot point.
