even if you're not pregnant i'm pretty sure you will see the humor in this - this is from a 1976 list of what to eat when pregnant:

(a) Meat. One pound of read meat should be eaten every day of gestation. Quantity is more important than quality. It will be necessary to eat it between meals as well as at meals and cold meat, especially corned beef ( Read more... )

Now...the funny thing is that I can see reasons for just about all of these! As with any dietary rules list, like the old testement, they were usually put together by people who thought they were writing for an unintelligent audience who couldn't possibly understand the REASONS for these things...So you end up with arbitrary rules that get distorted and insane! And then your grandmother swears that eating icecream is the reason your uncle Bob is on his 3rd wife..

Good grief. I was pregnant in '76 and I never ran across those restrictions. I'm afraid to find out what that list was published in!
