I weighed kitties this morning. Marvel still weighs 10 pounds, which is not that big for a cat but not unreasonably small or anything. Moxie, on the other hand, only weighs 5 pounds. Her littleness still makes me so nervoud about getting her fixed. They're curled up together in the little bed (again) and so cute I just want to pick them up and ( Read more... )

5 pounds is teeny. How old is she?

One of the cats I grew up with is about 15 now, and her weight has always fluctuated. One year she'd be fat as ten pounds of poo in a five-pound bag, the next year she'd be this svelte little sexycat.

Last year she got very, very little and skinny to the point where she was 5 pounds and a few ounces. She's a small-frame, small-boned cat as it is, but the vet warned my parents not to let her get under 5 pounds, or then there might be problems and risks.

So, yeah, you're probably wise to be nervous about getting her fixed if she's so eensy. Ask your vet about it.

She's about 2 years old. She's never fluctuated, she's always been this little (or littler). She was the litter runt, and has just always been tiny.

bixxy, your cat looks kinda like mine!

electricia, you oughta ask your vet to be sure, but I'm pretty sure cats get bigger after getting fixed a LOT more often than they get smaller. Maybe also try giving them wet food a lot, but giving Moxie most of it and Marvel just a little? You might need to hold/play with him after he scarfs his up to keep him out of hers.

Well, wet food leads to vomiting at my house. So no wet food. I'm not converned about her getting smaller, I'm concerned about her going under general anesthesia being so small. That's why she's not fixed at 2 years old, because she was too small. And she's still so little, they say they an do it, but it worries me.
