I'm sorry to say this but I'm not really using LJ anymore. I've added you, so that you can read the (most recent) locked entries explaining why.
A good way to make Friends, in your early days on LJ, is to add plenty of people. Choose people you really want to read. Sometimes people will have loads of Friends to read and won't be able (or willing) to add you back - but you'll still benefit by noticing how they write entertainingly... And by commenting in their popular blogs you will let other people see your name and potentially come over to read what you've written.
Loads of great people are on my Friends list. Make sure they are actually still using their journals though (when was their most recent update?). bonobo_theory doesn't use his now btw.
theferrett is good (but may be unable to add you back). His wife zoethe is brill too. I'd recommend casecob and wardytron, ems, ladyfox7oaks, _moggy_ .... Oh gawd, there are loads. Tell anyone off my list that I sent you. It might help. Or not. And try to find people your own age too. Heh

Thanks a lot :), and, I don't have a paid account, Maybe it's about time I got one :D I've been adding communities but I'm afraid to comment just in case I look like a crazy obsessed fan or something along those lines. :S Anyway Thanks for the help :)

And you certainly should comment in communities, that's the whole idea! Nobody is going to put you down for commenting around LJ - everyone likes to know that you are reading.
ah ha ha, don't worry I do that too, ok well. I posted on a community yesterday :) I've only just got started, soon LiveJournal will be full of my rantings XD
