***I gave it a "Sadness warning" for a reason. I looked it up last month when I got the phone call that Blue-the-husky was gone---It was not a surprise, he was fourteen, had lupus, had been failing.. It had been days, and I had not cried yet-. That did the trick.
When we buried Maya Belly last two Solstice's ago now, her 11th yr, it was so very hard. But we now fear losing Sage Moon all the more: he is our true "Firstborn," my husband and I have had the gift and joy of his loyalty and devotion since before we were married, 13 yrs ago. (He's a blue-bi merle, Aussie, with a serious addiction to frisbee, though now he's old enough he can barely catch it.)
Sometimes I worry that I'm just too dang attached to him, this awesome being of fur and flesh. I look at him now, across the room with his graying face and growing beard (really! He has grown a big ol' long mane-beard!), and all I see is this silly pup, jumping up into his Papa's arms and me cuddling him in bed each night.
Hail, Brigid! Bless and guard him as my child, would you, Mother?
And then there is Juna...
Thanks for sharing this, Eldri. [wiping the tears away...]

I read a novel and some short fiction some years ago by a descendant of his, Alex Jeffers. Remarkable scribe in his own right..
