I've been on LiveJournal for going on thirteen years. During that time, The Powers That Be have been guilty of dumbassery now and then. So it goes.

But the times are challenging enough without facing additional censorship and bigotry from our current LiveJournal comrades in Russia

It makes me sad, too. This was such a hub for fandom and friendship and SF in particular, because it was a great place to share and discuss. Now TPTB are acting against the very spirit of what made this a great place to be.

I agree that DW is much better for prose. I haven't yet figured out how to post images on DW without going through a whole bunch of inefficient extra steps (like hosting the picture online somewhere), so that's frustrating, but it's highly likely that I'm missing something basic. The more I spend time there, the more I'll figure out (I hope, ha!).

There's a horizontal menu, and you choose "Organize." From there, one of the options is "Import Content." This option prompts you for the name of the site you're importing from, etc. I hope this helps!
