I Want to Believe... Again!

I'll shortly be off to Asheville, and I look forward to seeing some of you at my "The Dystopian Tradition: What Worlds Gone Wrong Can Teach Us" weekend event.

Before leaving I had to make a quick post to say how very excited I am that The X-Files is returning (excited is an understatement!) and to share this Honest Trailer for The Hobbit: The Read more... )

hobbit, x-files, appearances, teaching

That was brutal. I'm slightly more happy that I decided to skip the third film.

Yes, I think you made the right call there, unfortunately. The Bilbo scenes were wonderful, but too few and far between. I'm afraid Peter Jackson has contracted latter-day George Lucas Disease and fallen in love with CGI at the expense of characters.

I was drinking TEA when I started watching that! Nearly Darjeeling'd my keyboard, thanks to you.

And I too am thrilled to learn that the truth is still out there. (At least now we know where it's been all these years.)

Ha! I'm sorry. No wait, I'm not: it was worth it to see Darjeeling used as a verb! :)

(At least now we know where it's been all these years.)

Exactly!

Your event sounds so fun!

Sadly, I have to agree with the Hobbit trailer on many things. I adore LOTR, but I kept desperately wanting to be emotionally involved here and... I wasn't.

And I'm both excited and terrified at the return of XF! I thought the second movie was awful. I hope everyone goes back and watches some eps of the show so they can remember what these characters were even like. (But of course, I'm a sucker and will be watching no matter what.)

Thanks so much! This past weekend was a real joy.

Sadly, I have to agree with the Hobbit trailer on many things.

So do I, I'm afraid. By RotK, I was pretty sure Peter Jackson was showing early signs of Latter-Day George Lucas Disease - that is, loving his CGI more than his characters - but all versions of The Hobbit proved it. I thought Martin Freeman did an exceptional job when he actually got a scene, but he was all but forgotten. Very sad.

And I'm both excited and terrified at the return of XF!

Well said - that's me, too, really. (By the way, your icon absolutely makes my day. Perfection!!!!) I'll admit I loved the second film, but it seemed to me much more like a Millennium story (and I adored Millennium!) than an X-Files story. Since the two 'verses crossed over, I got over it. I'll readily admit, though, that it didn't play to the strengths of the characters or the premise. I'm anxious to see what happens.

(But of course, I'm a sucker and will be watching no matter what.)Ha! Me, too! We're in ( ... )
