Halloween Countdown, Day 26, Part II

Have I mentioned yet how excited I am to hear that Twin Peaks is coming back - with a nine-episode continuation of the series, set in the present day, explaining what has happened these past 25 years? In a statement issued by Showtime, David Lynch and Mark Frost said, “The mysterious and special world of Twin Peaks is pulling us back. We’re very ( Read more... )

There was quite the flurry of excitement over on Facebook when this story broke. Most of my friends (including me) were huge fans of the show. I went to a Twin Peaks party (dressed as Laura Palmer, with "dead" makeup and a plastic bag over my head). At a Halloween costume party, everything stopped for an hour while we watched the show. It was the ultimate appointment television! I'll be interested to see what they do with it now.

How brilliant! Just imagining this makes my day. :)

You're so right about it being the ultimate appointment television. I remember how my friends and I would compare notes and theories and speculate on what would happen next. We'd talk about an episode all week until the next one.

Ahhhh Twin Peaks! Filmed in my own backyard. (Yeah, Snoqualmie Falls!) I can smell that damn fine coffee now...

It -however- will not be the same Twin Peaks, unless Albert Rosenfield returns!

LOL!

"... and you, you chowder-head yokel, you blithering hayseed. You've had enough of me?" ;P

I'm really looking forward to seeing who will return.

Have you noticed it's been a quarter century and Ray Wise is the only one who has hardly aged at all.

So true! It's like time has been standing still for them. Kyle MacLachlan looks incredible! Yet another unsolved mystery from Twin Peaks...

Maybe it was the coffee. Or the pie. :)

I was a huge fan of Twin Peaks back in the day. I remember myself and a bunch of friends in undergrad commandeering the TV in the Music Library, to watch the videotape of the most recent episodes.
Sadly, when I tried to go back and watch the show on Netflix recently, I found it a bit silly...and boring. Maybe I need to give it another chance.

Aw, I love your memories of Twin Peaks "back in the day"! I was in high school, and I remember taking part in fevered debate and speculation about the latest episode with the others who watched it faithfully (and it seemed like everyone I knew did). So much fun!

You know, I wonder if one of the reasons it seems a bit passe now is that it helped blaze the way (along with some other pioneering shows) for the kind of quirky-dark TV we see everywhere now, built on its shoulders and "grown up" or evolved (from True Detective to Fargo - heck, even The X-Files has a debt to pay to Twin Peaks, and that feels like ancient history, because it inspired so many other works). It makes me wonder what Twin Peaks in 2015 will look like, if it will be as cutting edge as it was before, or if it will seem like another show amidst its "grandkids."

I haven't rewatched it in a while. I should! Now I'm curious about my own reaction.
