One of my long-running fancies has been the idea of a novel about William Blake's love affair with Mary Wollstonecraft. There are bits of Blake that could be interpreted as evidence of this: his poem "Mary" (Some said she was proud, some called her a whore) and the line in "An Island in the Moon" where Quid the Cynic (Blake's avatar character) says to an unnamed woman "I think your face is like that noble beast the Tyger." Of course it would be all invention, a kind of historical fanfic. . . .
