I wouldn't be able to attend any of the lectures live (they occur in the middle of the night for me...) and I'm not sure I could keep up with the reading, but I've read at least half of the required texts already... I may just have to do it anyway...
Actually, at least half of the students don't attend live. (The last time I offered this, we had students from five different continents, and a good number of them couldn't make the scheduled times.) About an hour after each lecture, video and audio-only versions are posted so people can watch or listen at their convenience. If participants who "time-delay" their attendance have any questions/comments, they drop me an email, and I either respond to it directly or open the next lecture by responding to it for the benefit of the whole group. So far this system has worked out very well.
There's also a discussion forum and a 24/7 chat open to everyone involved. The discussion forum gets used a lot!
