I don't really have anything to add to that list, merely a comment that I recently read "Wither" by Lauren DeStefano and loved it.

How about The Wolves of Memory by George Alec Effinger? The cover doesn't say YA, but the protagonist is in college.

You mention one book by John Wyndham as not quite fitting your parameters, but what about: Web (1979 - yes, published posthumously)?

Thanks! It's been ages since I read it, and I didn't pick up that it was YA then, but of course I wasn't looking at it through that lens at the time. I'm so glad you brought it up. There's a good excuse to go back to it! I really appreciate your help.
