Aw, that's sad about Janet Kagan. "Uhura's Song" is one of my favorite Star Trek novels. It was so much better done than so many of the early ones. (I swear, when I first started buying ST books I was SCARED by some of the actually-got-published stuff that was out there. It would make ff.net look professional! And the fact that I was ten or eleven at the time, and still noticed how bad it was? That's saying something.)

Yes, yes, yes! I remember my experience with Uhura's Song the same way. I reread that one and Diane Duane's The Wounded Sky until they nearly fell apart.
