I moved to South Korea. Over a week later, and I think I'm beginning to realize that that... actuall happened. Huh.

Welcome to Asia!

...what brings you to this part of the world, if I might make so bold?

Teaching. I just had my first day. It was pretty scary, and I spent a goodly part of the day not really knowing what I was supposed to do. But I survived, so that's something! Are you in Asia as well then?

Yes indeed - this will be my 4th year in Bangkok. I think I'll probably head on somewhere new after this year, though. (Teaching too, at an International School.)

Are you doing EFL, or teaching a particular subject? How big are your students? Is it your first time?

(Get me! I'm the Spanish Inquisition!)

I met a lovely Korean girl a few months ago as I was flying back to Bangkok from a visit to friends in the US, and she was telling me how nice Korea is. Hope you're enjoying it! It's always culture shock-y at first, I guess, but interesting!

Wow. I can't imagine staying more than one year! I'm not even sure I'm going to make it the whole year; I've never been away from home for more than a month. I'm going to try and stay for the whole time, though! It would definitely suck to have to pay back my plane tickets.

Today I was pretty much just introducing myself and playing games (which was far more stressful than it sounds), but I'm going to be teaching Language Arts (so, pretty much just ESL) from a coursebook. I did a bit of coursebook work with my one elementary class this afternoon. It was alright, although I still felt like I didn't know what I was doing.

The culture shock's not been too bad. Or at least, it's mostly the shock of being in a big city. I'm in a city called Suwon, which is apparently pretty small for Korea, but is still as big as the biggest city in Canada. And I'm used to living in Halifax, which is... definitely not the biggest city in Canada. But I haven't really gotten to see much yet. Hopefully I will soon!

Oh, I understood what you meant! You only stayed the year, then? Most of the people I talk to seem to stay so long, and I don't understand it. I still not sure I can last one year!

And you came over from comedy_exchange, so maybe you could help me with one thing? Do you know if MegaUpload works in Korea? I don't have an internet connection yet, and I can't get the site to load at any of the internet cafes I've tried. Have you been able to use it here?
