Jack was impressed. Not only at the precision of her efforts, but in the calmness of her demeanor. There was also the fact that it was tea, nearly something that resembled something far too proper for the park, but it wasn't as if he could argue against it either.
"I wouldn't want to intrude, it seems such a lovely setting," Jack replied as he moved, circling around so that he could meet her eyes, instead of talking to the back of her head.
Looking up at the man, Inara smiled, and then rose to her feet in a graceful movement. "You're really not intruding. Please, sit," she said, motioning to the cushion on the other side of her low table. "Tea is always more enjoyable with company."
Smiling politely, Jack waited for her to take her seat again before taking up some space on the ground as well. His jacket made it slightly odd, but he managed to situate himself after a bit.
"Well, I agree, but I have to say - it's been a while since I've seen such effort put into a cup." Actually, the last time he had tea was with the Doctor - Ianto was more of the coffee guy, which was odd for Cardiff, but Jack never complained, the coffee was always good.
Inara smoothed the fabric of her dress around her legs as she watched him trying to get comfortable. Training kicking in, Inara's smile remained sweet and polite.
"Most people wouldn't, but I was performing a tea cermony. I find it soothing," she explained as she poured a cup of tea for her vistor. Picking up the cup, she held it out for him to take, her head bowing a little as she did so.
"I was just passing through." Nathan felt somewhat awkward for spying, but the scene had been interesting. It wasn't every day you passed by someone doing this kind of thing in the park. Even in New York.
"Besides, you look like you're waiting for someone as is." He nodded to the other cup, even though she couldn't see the gesture, wondering if he should have just kept moving. Probably would've been smarter.
Rising to her feet, Inara smoothed a hand over the soft material of her dress before she turned to face the man. A warm smile found it's way to her lips, a practice that she'd possibily never be rid of, but a good one to have. "I wasn't waiting for anyone. The tea ceremony is normally intended for two people, but, it's something I enjoy," her shoulders raising a little in a shrug.
"You're more than welcome to join me, if you've nothing better to do."
It was almost comforting to have someone this warm and open walking around, since most of the time, people around the city tended to be a bit on edge. Usually, with very good reason. Nathan couldn't help leaning in the direction of being disarmed.
But he wouldn't let himself lean too far. That always ended badly for him. Still, she had been extremely polite. "... Sure, that'd be fine." He nodded, glancing from the tea to the woman again. He held out a hand. "Nathan Petrelli."
Inara liked to think she'd have been a warm and open person even if she hadn't been trained as a Companion. She liked to think it was because she's possessed those traits before that she'd become such a good one.
"Lovely," Inara said, her smile growing as she watched Nathan. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Nathan. I'm Inara Serra," she returned, her hand reaching out and clasping his gently. "I take it that you don't normally do this sort of thing?"
