[City: Edge] Where the sidewalk ends

Feb 26, 2010 00:11

Foregoing her daily ice cream cone-- she'd save that for later, she had promised Connor after all-- Death, instead, chose to go for a long walk. With one destination. The Edge. In the two short weeks that she's been in this city of gold accents and cell phones, she'd never once thought to go as far as she could. So, she grabbed her umbrella and ( Read more... )

"Just as odd as the rest of the city, isn't it?" the Doctor asked. He just happened to be passing by. Passing by with something that was beeping and had a small circular dish that went round and round in circles.

"Odd, but seems to fit in perfectly," Death replied, glancing over to Nine, giving him a small smile. "How are you, Doctor?" She saw the beeping device in his hand, arching an eyebrow ever so slightly.

"Looking for your keys?" Oh, Death. Sometimes your jokes just fall flat.

He gave her a glance at the mention of keys. Oh, very funny. Not that he needed keys. "Oh, you know me. Always working! How have you been? Causing any trouble?"

And now this whole trouble thing would be an ongoing joke.

"Didn't you know? I always cause trouble," Death smirked, looking back out to the sky. "My middle name is 'trouble'. Well, if I had one."

After a few moments, her eyes take a faraway look and a small, childlike smile. "Do you think we could catch a cloud? I've always wanted to keep one in a jar," Death said absentmindedly.

Daniel had not forgotten his exploratory roots, and there were days when he would spent upwards of twelve hours wandering through the city - chatting with residents and mapping it within his mind. He was fascinated with the culture, the architecture, the very existence of this place. Today, he knew that his goal was to explore the outer edges of the city. To a point, he was a little afraid of what he might find. He'd already deduced that they were suspended in the sky. Their positioning to the sun and moon made that more than obvious. But what propelled them upward? Was it simply dirt floating, or some advanced device? Were they really in a Goa'uld mothership of immense proportions? All of these were possibilities to the archaeologist ( ... )

She heard his footsteps as he approached, a small smile curling up the corners of her mouth as she watched a cloud drift by that reminded her of one of Delirium's fishes. Like an oversized, overfed goldfish. A pang of longing struck her square in the chest and she closed her eyes for a moment, wishing she could see her sister.

At Daniel's greeting, she let her eyes slip open and she turned to glance at him over her shoulder. Her smile grew when he got distracted by the view she'd been admiring just a moment ago. "I can safely say, in all my years, that I've never seen anything like this." And it was true. She'd never been on a floating city in the sky before.

"You can call me 'Didi'," Death greeted him, her hand lifting to grasp his, giving it a firm shake. "It's lovely, isn't it? You wouldn't expect to be able to go out this far. I was expecting a high wall of some sort. But I like this."

"Didi," He repeated with a smile, "That's a lovely name." Names held power and history. Daniel was a friend to both concepts. In many cultures, the meaning behind a person's name was meant to represent their personality. Since Didi was usually short for something, Daniel couldn't discern which origin her name was meant to have. It didn't matter much anyway, since there weren't too many people who paid attention to name origins anymore.

He turned his attention to the view and looked out. "I don't really know what I was expecting, but it certainly wasn't this beautiful. I'm sorry, but do I know you from somewhere?" He rushed the question into his statement. Daniel couldn't shake the feeling that he knew this woman, though he couldn't place where. "I'm having an incredible sense of deja vu, or something like it."

She beamed at his compliment and she nodded, "Why, thank you. Daniel has always been a name I enjoyed." Part of the reason for that is that her brother Morpheus was replaced as Dream of the Endless by Daniel Hall. She had promised her brother that she would help his replacement.

She looked back out to the view, still smiling. When he asked her if she knew him, she turned back to look at Daniel, giving a slight shrug of her shoulders. "I get that a lot. I must just have one of those faces."
