Gene Prall was a friend of mine. He taught me that you have to define your own meaning for your life. Often, you have to find and create meaning in spite of obstacles and restrictions, but it's still up to you to make it happen. It was less surprising to people who have seen him recently. The diabetes really ate his lunch. He couldn't walk for a while, and then once he started on dialysis it went downhill fairly rapidly from there.

Yeah, last time I saw him was right before Iraq...so you sort of always have your last image of a person...which I know from his journals had obviously changed...but that's the way the mind works:(
