Peter had spent most his morning inside with a good book (Chaucer, mostly), but had decided fresh air and a change of scenery would be a good idea. He headed outside, passing by the kitchen with a wave, and through the front door of the compound. Rickon was in a rare good mood all morning, so much so that Susan almost hated to leave him when she needed to go up to the compound for some things. The non-fussy times were so infrequent she hated to miss them, but she also wanted to get out of the house. So she left Rickon with Jon and went to the compound on Jon's horse. It was a nice day to ride and Susan took her time about it, enjoying the fresh air.

She pulled up when she saw Peter, and laughed, swinging down from the saddle. "Having fun, are you?"

He raised his eyebrows, smiling widely. "Just taking a break from reading all morning to enjoy the nice weather." He shrugged, nodding his chin up at the horse. "Taking an afternoon ride, I see?"

"Well, it is the fastest way to get around the island," she said, and led the horse over to a nearby shady patch to tether him. "I'm all for getting exercise but that walk from home to the compound gets a bit daunting after a while." She sat in the swing beside the one Peter occupied, curling her fingers around the chain.

He nodded, smiling. She had a point; the island wasn't that large, but it was large enough to enjoy a ride now and then. He glanced over at her as she sat by him. "How's Rickon?" He hadn't seen him in only a few hours, but he still asked; it was something of a habit.
