Well, in one of those click-through-the-internet moments, (a friend mentioned this post and then I saw this thread and five minutes of googling later...)

"When I stepped out into the bright sunlight from the darkness of the movie house I had only two things on my mind". I was huge fan of SE Hinton as a kid. She (and Larry McMurtry) are the reason I wanted to write. I loved The Outsiders and Tex (the book and the film). Not sure how well they hold up reading them as an adult though. Maybe I'll have to dig them out and re-read.The Outsiders film is also the reason why I developed such a crush on Diane Lane. She was just lovely in it.

It's funny to think of her hanging out on twitter though. Is she a slash fan or more a het/ gen fan girl I wonder?

I read The Outsiders once in sixth or seventh grade and I remember loving it. And then in the summer of '07 I suddenly bought three of her books including The Outsiders, read through every page of Outsiders fic on fanfiction.net, bought the directors cut of the film, and got obsessed. I think it holds up really well, personally, but I admit emotional nostalgia.

I don't know what kind of fangirl she is, but seeing a favorite writer really embracing fandom in that way is just awesome. (I don't think she's posted, or planning to post, her fic, but she has visited the Supernatural set!)

The Outsiders was part of my curriculum in English... I bought another copy recently because of JB liking it too... good to know she writes fanfiction too

Finding out a favorite author writes fanfiction has made me so happy. I'm used to all of this negativity from the "professionals" and Hinton brought fanfiction with her to a writers workshop. How awesome!? :D
