There's a lot of nonsense being spread about the NHS right now. Not simply misconceptions, but utter shameless lies. By the way? Steeltoes to the crotch of the next person who so much as mutters anything about OH NOES SOCIALISM. The last vaguely appropriate time to bitch and moan about that was 1941.

I'm not sure what you mean. I seem to recall Bevan having been very proudly a Socialist, and seeing the NHS as a great triumph of socialism over capitalism.

Well, to be fair, the way Britain does healthcare is very socialist. More so than most other countries' systems, and it's not necessarily the right one to copy.

But yes, I am also tired of "socialism" being thrown around as the "polite" way to label someone a commie and dismiss what they have to say. It's infantile, it gets in the way of a real debate, and I wonder how much of the opposition to a proper healthcare system stems from this piece of kneejerk stupidity alone.
