This started out as a reply to a comment thread, but it got rather long and I realised it's also a reply to a whole load of rhetoric that I hear from many people and needs answering in general terms, so here goes

Rather than clutter your weblog up even more by restating my own arguments, I'll just mention that I'm really looking forward to things like wind farms on the Great Lakes, solar panels and wind turbines on and around my house whenever I eventually have a house, plug-in hybrids and eventually just plug-in cars, etc. At the moment, though, I guess I'm helping a little bit by taking the train to work instead of driving (and on a side note, I do get a subsidy from the gubment for that).
