What's in a name?

Part 1:
The Pacific Northwest feels like paradise to me, but Captain Vancouver must have had an outright miserable time round here. The none-too-subtle clues are in the names he gave to places, as the first European to survey much of the area. imtboo just went to deception pass yesterday, and it's really hilarious to look at what property developers are trying to do with that. There's actually a "Deception Estates" if I got the name right, not too far from the bridge, and we had lunch at "Deception Café".

I think the badness of Tacoma is very much exaggerated by Seattleites, but doing so is obligatory. It's a kind of sibling rivalry really, intensified by there being no actual gap between Seattle's southern sprawl and Tacoma's northern sprawl.

The Tacoma Aroma, however, is all true. It's even noticeable when passing the city on I-5.

Indeed. Good thing the Spanish didn't turn him down, like Caboto, or he might have ended up with an English-speaking crew.
