I LOVED the movie, and I'm not even a fan of Star Trek. I was going because my hubby is a big fan, but was pleasantly surprised and really enjoyed it. I thought I'd have to know a lot about the series to "get it", but turns out I didn't.
I think Kirk was studious. He was brilliant and they made mention of how he scored very highly at the Academy. He was just one of these young hot-shot types that didn't tend to work to their potential...cough...I can identify with that. ;)
Glad you liked it, anyhow!

It's always bad to put me anywhere near anything having to do with Star Trek. I was winning Trek trivia contests at 14. It's just another fine feature of Asperger's. "Ask me about ______. Go ahead, ask me anything!"

;-) Glad you enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to more.

With respect to Delta Vega:

"We moved the planet to suit our purposes. The familiarity of the name seemed more important as an Easter egg, than a new name with no importance." - Roberto Orci, writer.

Ah. "Because the scriptwriter said so." Quite logical. *grins*
