There was a lot of House/Cuddy fic (although it pains me to think about them b/c of what a trainwreck that show and ship turned into ;_;)

WOW, it's been like 800 years since I thought about that show. But that makes sense, I knew a ton of people who shipped them a couple of years ago, and a lot of them were like... this certain specific kind of het fan?? That I can't describe??? But that totally do produce a lot of fic, generally speaking.

HMMM. Booth/Brennan, maybe?

I do think there's a lot of fic for HP het pairings. I would guess some of the big ones would be Ron/Hermione, Harry/Hermione, Draco/Hermione, Harry/Ginny, Snape/Hermione, but I can't be sure since I never read a lot of HP fic myself?? I did read some back in the day, but it's been a long time.

I FOUND LIKE, FOUR STORIES TOTAL WHEN I WAS INTO BOOTH/BRENNAN. I mean I admittedly don't think I ever channeled my Booth/Brennan energies into being into fic, but I think that's because it felt futile?? But I mean, amount of fic total is not the same as amount of fic worth reading. Maybe there was way more out there than I ever knew!!

hahahahaha oh man, THE POPULARITY OF SNAPE/HERMIONE IS A THING I ALWAYS REPRESS. And the "back in the day" thing is what makes it so hard for me -- I swear in like 2004 it felt like there was INFINITE AMOUNTS OF Ron/Hermione fic out there (and that is my terrible quantification system for whether or not I count stuff -- do you FEEL like you've already read all the fic for that pairing that you'd like, or does it feel like there's always some unturned corner where you'll find your next favorite?) (maybe I should find a better way to quantify).

There are insane amounts of HP het. You have to remember how long that series was in progress for. The output from the three year summer alone was ridiculous. Pairings like Josh/Donna from The West Wing dominated their fandom in terms of output, but I'm not sure it would compare to like, SPN slash. I'm pretty sure there was a lot of Spike/Buffy fic. Sam/Jack from Stargate? I feel like I should be able to come up with more than this.

Yeah that's true! I think the reason it feels like there's less of it now is just because it really did die off after DH was published, and now when you go looking for HP fic you don't necessarily want a story that only acknowledges canon up to book 4 (or maybe that's just me). You are also right about Josh/Donna dominating the West Wing fandom -- that's a great way lens through which to examine this in general -- which ship "won" the fandom. But yeah, that's the thing!! There are an okay amount of het ships that have a pretty strong showing of fic, but when you think about stacking them next to the big slash ships -- Sherlock/Watson, Arthur/Merlin, Steve/Tony, et al. -- I don't know if any of them make it quite up there. (And SPN, man, I don't know if ANYTHING compares to that. Although I guess really you have to split their output into three separate ships -- the brothers, the actors, and Dean/Castiel, and maybe those individually are comparable to things besides like, Harry/Draco.)

I think you also need to qualify where you're looking for fic. Like, whether or not it's a good thing, ff.net is still a HUGE fanfic archive. Which, DUH, Edward/Bella is the ship you are looking for. So if you're not looking there, especially for het, you're probably getting a false impression of just how much is being written.

Yeah, but I don't know if you can! Because every fandom "lives" on a different site, or really different combination of sites. But you're right that it's super easy to let stuff slip your mind if it's a presence on something like ff.net, where I haven't regularly tried to find fic since like, 2003. That's why I asked! BECAUSE I TOTALLY FORGOT EDWARD/BELLA EXISTED, but you're so right, there is SO MUCH fic.

I tweeted at the USA network to tell them to bring Life to their network, but I think that's about it.

Jim/Pam! Barney/Robin. Hm, that's all I can think of right now.

Hahahaha yeah, I figured most of the stories would be like that. Chuck fandom organized a thing after season 2 where we were all supposed to go to Subway and buy food on a specific Friday, I went and bought a cookie because I hate Subway sandwiches. It was a really bad cookie :(

Good ones!! Last time I looked at MTT (two years ago??) there was STILL NEW FIC BEING POSTED. Like, what??? Who are these people?

Buffy/Angel and Buffy/Spike were pretty huge, if my memory serves. And Idk if it was a legit ~prolific~ het fandom but I sure read a ton of Pacey/Joey when I was 16! It's weird thinking of fandoms back then, though; things were so spread out that it's possible there was like, thirty times the amount of fic in a Dawson/Pacey archive but I never saw it because I wasn't into it. UNCHARTED INTERNET WATERS.

Oh! Maybe Doctor Who? I don't know anything about that fandom but it seems like it could be het-driven.

(ALSO SOMEONE ALREADY SAID JIM/PAM, which wasn't huge, per se, but was pretty much the ONLY pairing for that entire fandom. MTT: land of one million Jim/Pam categories and then OTHER.)

AND EVERYTHING WAS ON GEOCITIES!! And mailing lists!! And stuff like that! (If you think about it like that the kudos button is KIND OF AMAZING, we used to have to email authors if we wanted them to know we like their fic! WHAT.) but hahahahahaha, Dawson/Pacey. I want to be like "no one liked Dawson enough for that!" but you never know with slash fandom.

You are SO RIGHT about Doctor Who!! I think! I don't know anything about it either!
