Merry got away from Brandy Hall by telling his parents he was going to speak with Farmer Hockley about this year’s Old Winyards order for Longbottom. Hockley was in charge of the Longbottom Yule festivities, and since Merry did plan to speak with him about a far more pressing matter, too, it wasn’t strictly a lie. Saradoc clapped him
