Language Meme.

I have been in HP fandom for more than 5 years and while most people are native speakers, I've seen many others like me, for whom English is a foreign language. I've come into English lj completely by accident and started wondering lately how other people have got there. So I wrote this language meme.

Very interesting! I've been wondering before if you were Russian or Israeli, because I think you used to have some Russian text in your user info or something, didn't you? Anyway, I always think of the mother tongue(s) to be the language(s) that your parents (or parental figure) talked to you in your childhood. So not necessarily the language you know best. I think my dad is better in Swedish than he is in his mother toungue at this point, and he moved in his late teens.

Wait, so English isn't your mother tongue either?
How did you come to English fandom then?

No. It's mostly because the Swedish fandom is so tiny it feels almost pointless to participate. And English is my best foreign language, not to mention it's definitely the dominating language in HP and all other things I've followed the fandom for. Have found any fannish communities in Russian or Hebrew online (besides the fic-writing/reading you mentioned)?

I am sure there are some in Hebrew, but I have never searched for them. Have found some nice fics in Russian, but the best meta I've seen is in English, specifically the 3 sites mentioned in my HP last recap.
