You can't win with parents, they just kinda of decide how it has to be and thats it.. of course now that I am a parent I type this with confliction.

Sounds like your mum has some leftover expections about gender roles? Mine is the same. Don't get me wrong - she's liberated, is an entrepreneur in radio advertising, and so forth. However, she has a few expectations about how I should behave, based on me being a boy, that she's never quite managed to shake off. So... sympathy.

Perhaps you and Daniel would benefit from Chore Wars? Many others have found it helpful as a gamified framework for getting things done.
