Save the World?

I sometimes forget exactly how much I love Anna Quinlen, one of the writers for Newsweek's "Last Word" column... But then I read one of her truly inspired pieces and fall in love with her again, simply because she awakes in me a feeling of light, of power. I read that sentence as "There are things wrong with the word NOW", and pondered for a moment, thinking, okay, what's wrong with that word? Is it too short? Does Eithni not like W's?

Also, I'd like to remind you that you and I both have jobs where we make a difference in individual people's well-being every day. So, it's nice to use the money we earn and the time we aren't working to help the world, but we are doing pretty well in helping the world even if we don't give to charity or volunteer. I'm not saying it's necessarily enough, I'm just saying, give yourself credit for that.

Ever done this? Savory Sunday. You cook and then serve food to homeless people. It's very hands-on. I know they could use money/help. They also need people to drive food around town, picking up leftovers/supplies from restaurants and the Community Action Coalition, and then moving food on Sundays from the cooking site to the basement of the Capitol for serving. I am all for this wonderful idea!

something I recently learned re: food drives (may be different up there though):

our food bank has different purchasing power than the average consumer. If they receive a can of soup, they have a can of soup. If they receive $1, they can buy about $10 of food. Might check into this so that your efforts are most effective!
