You know, the word "abandon" in this context is really just...odd. I find myself wondering how I could have been living under a rock for so long. I don't remember all this baloney the last several times I've voted for a president. Is this the new thing? Is this a new language? Why do I suddenly feel like going and sitting on my porch and finding some kids to yell at to get off my lawn?
Actually, McCain is not abandoning the ads: the RNC, campaign-independent, is cutting out. But they have much more $ than McCain's campaign itself so the net effect should be the same :)
McCain pulled out of Michigan earlier on, and there are still a fair number of ads run by the RNC and other special interest groups.
Living in the state capital really sucks around election time: it's running about 3/4:1 political to regular commercial ads on TV during prime time right now. We've also got a miserably contentious state senate race and the negative ads are pretty much continuous.
