[there was a mad cackling echoing through the apartment, and a vase of roses had been overturned in the living room, the glass shattered and blood trailing very lightly from it]

[he laughed, and laughed, so much that it hurt worse than the glass he had walked in, and they way it reverberated throughout the home made it hard to tell exactly where in it he was. But he was there, for certain]

[Klavier noticed the broken glass and the blood, and he felt his breath catch in his throat. He raced from room to room, looking for Kristoph, calling his name, trying to figure out what the hell happened here.]

[that Klavier was only now running through his apartment made him laugh all the more, his cackling growing more desperate and edged with pain]

[He was in his study, seated in his chair and facing the doorway. His head was held in one hand and he was still laughing when Klavier entered]

[Klavier stopped dead in the doorway, looking at his brother. He walked over to him, and put his hands on the other's shoulders.]
