2013 KSBB art for 'King's Gambit' by shinysylver.
It's an AOS spin on the TOS episode Court Martial. Good stuff!

There is also another artist who picked this fic. You can see emilywritescrap's art over at her tumblrNow for some brief artist thoughts ( Read more... )

Reni! This is gorgeous! I really like how you used the chess board as the ion storm and Jim's expression is wonderfully nuanced. I haven't read the fic yet, but your work is making me super curious :)

And yay! You're drawing Trek <3!

Thanks, unbidden!! ♥♥♥
I had a good time trying to combine the various elements into this, I actually have a few thumbnails laying around with my mental mapping. I may post those along with in-progress photos, like a 'How an artist works' type thing.

Drawing Trek!! It's exciting and you totally knew it was going to happen XD

I love how you did the background on this with the chessboard! I read the fic this morning, and this piece complements it wonderfully.

I am absolutely blown away that you made something so perfect and so wonderful based on something I wrote. I love the episode poster layout and the way the chessboard ties so much together. And the people! They are so well done. Thank you so much for creating something so beautiful to accompany my fic.

This is so cool. The colouring is awesome and I'm super impressed by the chessboard/ion storm, I can never get clean lines with acrylic @n@

The real challenge was making sure the acrylic was 'wet enough' that I could get the sharp lines with my brush. I used a bit of water to get a smoother coat, though I wish I had some acrylic retarder hanging around cause it probably would have been a better choice and help the paint not dry so quickly on me! You should have seen me groaning in frustration when an off color layer I put down wasn't wet anymore!!

Anyway, so happy to hear you like it!! Thank you!
