Spuffy is an Action Movie

I saw an icon today that was clearly the cover to a paperback romance novel manipped to have it be Buffy and Angel, and it made me think. I had a huge paperback romance phase from about age 16 to age 22 (ironically when I delved into fandom and found romance novels written by fans about my favorite characters to be much more fulfilling), but seeing ( Read more... )

They are SO an action movie. *nod*

Although they also fit into the cliche rom-com as well. Not, obviously, in, say, season 6. But... I can see them fitting some of the requirements. AS MUCH AS IT PAINS ME TO SAY IT.

Maybe a dark black comedy rom com. Or something like Scott Pilgrim. But Buffy's never cried over Spike into her Ben & Jerry's, which is a rom com requirement.

Spike's stalking of Buffy in mid-S5 is very rom-com-ish (though subverted in that it doesn't succeed in getting the girl).

Also, action movie Spuffy FTW!!!

Totally loves this and I think it is spot on tbh. A lot of women go through the romance novel stage and a lot of them grow out of it. Some of them don't. But you are right that B/A is a romance cover if there ever was one.

I love the whole Buffy/Spike as an action movie thing. Or again, as a dark rom-com. They are definitely the kind of movie you can't really appreciate until you're older. :)
