 Dear technically-savvy f-list,

I desperately want to start spamming with pretty pictures (including the idea of a generswapped Supernatural, which occurred to me at about 3:45 AM), but I have a problem. How the f&#% do you do a picspam? I need a complete idiot's guide to doing one on lj and tumblr, so pretend you're explaining this to a manically ( Read more... )

help!

I'm pretty sure amyxaphania has posted a bunch of tutorials on her journal. She's the person I'd ask!

Mostly, it seems picspams are just capping, cropping, coloring, resizing then putting a punch of the images together into a sort of collage format.

But where do I get pictures? Like I think it was marketchippie who mentioned hand imagery between Buffy and Spike in S7, and now I wanna do Buffy/Spike handsex picspam like you always do, and I'm . . . um . . . stuck kinda. I don't know where to get images, and I think I may just upgrade to a pro Photobucket account if I do go through with the picspam/meta. I also adore the format of eleusis_walks' 30 Days meme, and if I ever get around to actually doing one of those, I wanna do the same.

My ambition is only matched by my complete lack of skill.

And I will be bugging amyxaphania later today.

Oh! I was kinda taking for granted you knew about Screencap Paradise, but duh that's not an obvious place unless someone points it out.

There's also Caps by Emma-Jane, of which there are more and often in higher quality than on SP (and also not about to go defunct, which I understood SP was, unless that's changed since I heard). She does ask that the screencaps "not be displayed on your site/galleries," but is okay with them being used for "icons/fanart;" I'm guessing picspam would fall in the latter designation, but am not positive.

1. Get an account on an image hosting site. (I use Photobucket.)

2. Upload your pictures.

3. Copy the direct link to one of your pictures.

4. Go to post an LJ entry.

5. Make sure you're in the Rich Text version. (At the top right, it has a spot to toggle between Rich Text and HTML.)

6. There's a little yellow square among the tools at the top of the entry field. When you hold your mouse over it, it says something like "insert image". Click that square.

7. Paste the direct link that you copied in step 3.

8. Repeat steps 3-7 with each image.

As Emmie says, Screencap Paradise is a great place for screencaps from the Buffyverse (and some other stuff that I haven't looked at). Disparue is also good, there tend to be more caps, though I think they're actually lesser quality.

For prettifying screencaps, I recommend photo editing software. I hear Photoshop is good. Personally, I use ActivePixels for most of my needs, occasionally using Gimp and Photoscape for extra tasks. Google any of them; they can be downloaded for free. Actual Photoshop costs money.

What me_llamo_nic said. And this is very important: don't forget to use a cut tag. :)

I also second Emmie's suggestion of Screencap Paradise.

I know where to get the caps (and I'll share links with you), I just have no idea how to make them pretty like other people do. I can crop, but I don't have photoshop or any comprable program, so how on earth am I going to change the lighting and the color intensity and all that? IT IS FRUSTRATING.

Yes, we're a twofer indeed.

Also, snogged has a list here that contains icon and fanart resources.
