One week ago today, I was at CommuniCon, the convention for fans of Community, hanging out with show writer Andy Bobrow.

That sounds like such an amazing day! Getting to hang out in the study room with the actors and writers would be a fannish dream come true.

Alison Brie is so adorable. It surprised me how tiny she and Gillian Jacobs are in real life, but Joel McHale wasn't as tall as I was expecting either. I was advised by other aca-fans (Lynn Zubernis and Katherine Larsen? Heard of them? They do research in Supernatural fandom) to lead with my academic credentials and try to keep myself in a scholarly mode, but Andy, Gillian, and everyone else wouldn't have that, and indulged me like I was a superfan. It was actually kind of nice to throw off the pretense of academia, and because I couldn't conduct interviews with the cast, I really didn't get much scholarship out of the experience, but damn, was it cool!

Oh, and I should mention that at the last conference I attended there was a presentation on why Dean from Supernatural was a fanboy, so that may have some relevance to your dissertation on fictional fans? Is that what you're still doing?

It really was! If I was going to continue researching Community, say write a book on it, it would be necessary for me to get actual interviews with the cast, but right now just hanging out with them was pretty damn cool.

It's going to be a tribute to the women of the Buffyverse to Florence + the Machine's "Raise it Up (Rabbit Heart)"

OMG I have been meaning to ask for recs for good female-centric btvs vids that are paired with florence & the machine songs, because I hadn't come across any I liked and the pairing of women warriors with Florence's music seems a perfect fit. (the exception is afterthebattle's Spuffy vid paired with "Kiss with a Fist" - my least favorite song on Lungs but perfect for the dysfunction of Spuffy S6; so really not the same thing at all.)

I can be patient, don't worry, no pressures. But I will be glad to offer encouragement as needed!
