The thing I'm curious about with this is how exactly it can be profitable for the studio. Just using the estimate of 50K fans donating. That's spread across the USA and the world, in various towns and cities.

There is no way WB is going to pony up for a large scale release. Maybe 1000 screens? Your per screen average with that model doesn't seem to suggest it's going to recoup the cost of the print after overhead because the spread of the fanbase is too great... plus they can see it free anyway.

So, yeah, I guess I like the idea for what it is. WB basically giving passionate fans what they want as long as they pay before it's made.

I've been surprised at how many people have grumbled that WB shouldn't profit off a movie that the fans are funding, how much money do they think a VM movie is going to make? Especially when nearly all of the fans have already paid for a copy of the movie! I get the feeling that it was very much a case of WB caving in to Rob's persistence and agreeing to the movie if he can prove there is enough support out there, but it's not like anyone stands to make a huge profit. It really is just for the fans and I'm grateful for everyone who has helped get it made

And I would have totally pledged for one of the bigger offerings if I lived in America and had any chance of getting there *g* I settled for the $200 pledge instead

I think it's amazing that you bought the package, and I'm SO happy you posted about it because I'd been planning to donate but forgot that there was a deadline for doing so. So thank you, because now I can call myself a contributor to this movie, too (I went for the DVD package). :)

I hope any buyer's remorse goes away! You should get to spend your hard-earned money how you see fit. FWIW, I'm also planning to spend a ridiculous amount of money on something "potentially stupid"- as a reward for finishing the CPA exam (knock on wood), I'm going to buy a VIP ticket to an SPN con and buy the J2 photo op. Once you add in transport and hotel, that'll be like...$2,000.

Can't wait to hear about the fan event this summer!
