Woot. I am, I think, up to date on comments I needed and wanted to post or reply to. Hurrah!

I ran into my adviser and one of my professors in the coffee shop this morning. On one hand it was great to see them, but on the other it was very stressful to think about how much work I've NOT done this summer. But I briefly mentioned the "seeing ( Read more... )

Aw, I think you should definitely go to the Winter in July thing. I would go with you if I were there. I love the zoo! I bet you'll have time to do the zoo thing, travel to&from and visit with the kitties, and still nap before your dinner thing.

Sometimes in my head I play a game called, "If I Was In Charge of [So-and-So]'s Life." And then sometimes it sneaks out of my head.

But I think you should definitely go to the zoo!

Well, I asked!!

I have found my membership card and charged my camera batteries. Looks like I'm going to try. Wish me luck, though, 'cause getting up at 5am to be at the zoo at 6am is going to be hard.

I so enjoy hearing about your students! Isn't it ironic that the gifted writer will go into business? But you never know, perhaps one day this student will take up writing fanfic! LOL! I didn't write until I was 36. You never know.

I always try to impress on the students that our goal is to help them to be better communicators. I hope I get it right.

When I declared that my college majors were going to be English and History my dad (an engineer) despaired. (I didn't know this 'til later.) However, he eventually came to the realization that even people in business need to know how to write and communicate. (I believe this decision came after reading one too many bad emails!) So at least it won't be entirely wasted. Maybe this kid will turn out to be a truly amazing football player (he's on the team and all that) and when he writes his memoirs at least they won't need to be ghost written. :)

I think that's every teacher's goal and fear! :)

I also want my students to question everything, to stop being passive containers into which media and information and opinions are bombarded and accepted. Well, I can dream. :)
