Supernatural: Despair & Academia (and Yarn)

Jun 02, 2009 20:23

So, first the despair. As the entire fandom knows by now, the Creation Con in Vancouver is selling tickets to tour the set of Supernatural. (Info here, scroll down.) I heard this a couple of days ago already, and it's been percolating in my mind. Given that I posted things like this entry on how much I'd like to meet the designers and ( Read more... )

Hee. Good idea. Yes I should. Some day. He's officially on The List.

(Sorry- hard to get excited by anything at the moment- too cranky about Vancouver.)

Hm. I think at the moment we're looking at *any* instance in which a character sells his or her soul, regardless of what s/he gets in return. That's a huge selection, but we'll likely whittle it down for the article (but keep ideas for the potential book ( ... )

Edmund sells his soul to the White Witch for a crown and some turkish delight in The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe.

And it takes the Deeper Magic from Beyond the Dawn of Time to fight that.

Do you want it to be the literal devil? Or just someone selling their soul? Because Bart selling his soul to Millhouse in the Simpsons. And I'm sure there's more, if I think about it.

Don't know if that counts, but...

And on a more different note, I got to see the Roswell sets at the studio here in LA way back when (but it only cost me $50-something for a fan party--my first fan party!), and it was made of awesome. I sat on Michael's squishy brown couch. *nods*

What's interesting about Narnia is that that's the only time (thus far) where God (or Aslan in this case, the Christ-figure) steps in. But since he *is* the Christ-figure, one has to wonder if he would have had that sort of general sacrifice been already made in Narnia.

Also, that's awesome that you saw the Roswell set. I never watched Roswell, but am jealous anyway. The Creation Cons are *uber* expensive, but they're the only game in town (which is to say the US) with guests. (Any other Supernatural Convention is fan run.) Le sigh.

Just reading Fandom Wank, and some of the fan cons seem kinda scary anyway. Actually, some of the fen seem scary. Lots of tinhats. Or maybe you should wear the tinhat to keep from the crazy... *shudder*

I can show you pictures some time when we unpack our pictures. Wherever those pictures are. In a box somewhere...
