Gay rights - great read

This is an amazing entry by misscheeveeuss about God and the gay rights movement. It's a great read, and if you get through it (which I should hope you do), there's a followup entry that you'd probably enjoy.

*potters off to read*

That quote is so perfect. I must use it more, normally I heft out a paraphrased version of the Bartlet quote I love.

Interesting read. While I am all for gay marriage, there were some pretty clear logical fallacies in her post, most notably that religion doesn't have to obey the laws of logic that she is trying to impose on it; but it was a good read with some reasonably good points.

It's not asking religion to listen to logic - it's asking religion's followers to.

I'm sorry, I failed to make myself clear...

She was, in her post, asking religion to listen to logic. She was indicating that a specific "flavor" of Christianity cannot pick and choose which parts of the old testament they do and do not follow. That is untrue... as part of their relgion, they can make up whatever strange set of religious rules they desire... and it is perfectly logical, within the confines of their religion.

I think that gay marriage should be allowed, if for no other reason than we don't use the relgious concept of marriage as the basis for "marriage" in the US. If we did, of course they shouldn't be allowed to marry.

It will take a LONG time for that to come to pass in this country, however... but it will happen.

It's sad that it takes so long...

And that's the thing. To pick and choose is not only ridiculous, it's unfair to say "I choose this as God's Will, therefore you can't be married. Why? Because, well, God said so, and I choose to listen to only that part of it."

The point of the post is that God didn't say so. Am I just being thick, or are we on different wavelengths?
