I'm probably not the best person to be "setting you straight," but there's nothing wrong with feeling the way you do ( ... )

"a flying rat's hiderparts" lol.

mr. newman said like 92% or something of the african american males at phs failed fcat last year. that's the only statistic he told us, but i'm pretty sure the others can't be too far behind. CRAZY!

and you want to hear my theory on this? the more they try to implement programs such as RAP time to bring up our scores, the worse they get, right? this has been demonstrated already. when you make students do this stuff all the damn time, especially when they don't find it particularly interesting or reasonable or worth it in the first place, it just compounds those feelings so that by the time they make it to the actual fcat they are like "i am sick of this, and it's stupid, therefore, i am not going to give it much effort."

and to further support my theory:
lower achieving students give into thought patterns like that more easily than higher achieving ones. i remember dr. rowe telling us that a lot of them really think that honors kids get their grades by luck or bias rather than actual work. even as an honors student it's not difficult to nourish a deep loathing for the fcat, and thus making the previously described reaction not at all unimaginable.

That sounds quite reasonable. I've always found busy-work and standardized tests to be the most distasteful assignments I'm given (even now in college). I tend to do subpar work on those assignments and still make decent grades because I'm one of those people who get by on natural talent and aptitude. And everyone I've known who are naturally talented in academics have felt the same. So I can only imagine what its like for those who have to work for it. Its just sickening having to do practice after practice, it makes the real thing just that much more shitty. Like I said, the people in charge aren't doing an adequate job with education improvement programs. They usually just lower the standards or make up some bullshit programs that waste money that could be put to better use (like for hiring teachers or paying them more, better equipment, more schools; heck, I just finished a research paper on how education in Florida could use more money in certain places instead of others) and don't really work because the reasoning is all wrong. Bailey, i would like to state that i hate stupid people and the fact that they are not just around us but that they encompass the entire globe...and i agree fully with the RAP hatred...try having Mr. Hammonds...one of the stupid people in the world (sure im sure hes semi-competent in physics, geometry, and whatnot but hes NO anat. teacher) treat you like a standard child and honestly think we dont know how to attack the oh so difficult math FCAT practice problems...what also angers me to the nth degree is the fact that we as juniors in high school must take the FCAT science once again...i want to walk up to the school board stand on a desk, pull down my pantaloons, and say to them, "KISS MY WHITE BUM, PUTNAM COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD FOR I HAVE ALREADY PASSED THIS STUPID TEST AND PAYED MY DUES TO THE FCAT!!!!" and thats what i would say.
