SmartCar Auction, this time for sure...

Seen on Jalopnik: the ebay auction for an americanized SmartCar is up to $34,100 with half a day left to go. Can't be delivered to CA or New England, though.

As for ZapWorld themselves, apparently for all their press releasing, DaimlerChrysler supposedly isn't actually selling them any cars...

I've seen a number of them around here. My impression was that it wasn't trivial but wasn't all that hard either to privately import a car from Canada.

Indeed, people have reported seeing a few with Toronto plates in Somerville, and with *dealer* plates in Maryland (that's a trick: you can put dealer plates on just about anything, apparently, it's also a common "how to get your Lotus 7 licensed without doing any actual work" trick.)

Of course, just today I've seen 3 advertising-paintjob ones, and 2 no-marketing ones (one all black, one black and silver.) But that's in Gothenburg Sweden ("apparently the winters are milder here, so you see more of them than you would in Stockholm"... yes, that sounds like a birdwatching line :-)
