An important point, which we used to discuss here quite regularly - Zac's lack of appeal to the male audience, which was holding back his whole career.
But as I said more recently, his innate charm eventually wears down even the haters.
I also give some credit to the marketing people, who did not focus the movie's promo on Zac. This project was sold as "a movie for everyone" rather than a Zac fest for his devoted fans, and Adam was featured even more than Zac in the trailers and promo stuff. I don't know whether this was intentional, but it was a smart move for Zac.
