Recent updates to both my XP box and my OSX box have crippled my functionality identically, though it affects me much, much more on Windows. When I reboot either of these operating systems, my computer now cannot traverse the KVM and get a read on my widescreen monitor, so it defaults to a lower resolution and a 4:3 setting, which given my 16:10 ( Read more... )

"I want to travel back in time to hunt dinosaurs and get startled off the pre-fab trail by a charging T-Rex causing me to step on a butterfly and when we get back to our time there will be no Microsoft and the leader dude will put a gun to my head because he'll have to use an operating system that doesn't suck."

Damn.

I remember when we still used typewriters to write stuff "faster." Not kidding. I still have it-it's an Underwood.

Then we got a Mac.

Then, for some weird reason we got an IBM. Then a Compaq. Then an eMachine. Then a Dell. Now, after over fourteen years of the Blue Screen of Death and one useless Compaq laptop became sledgehammer fodder (literally-I smashed the fucker with a hammer) we moved back to Macs.

I still don't know why we switched. But I do know that I would make a horrible computer science teacher because I get frustrated trying to explain how to use a Mac to someone (my mother) who hasn't used one in so long.

Makes me long for the time when we still used the typewriter.

I think I'll write my novel on it. I just need a new ribbon (or loads of carbon paper).

I often think back to high school and the untold events which lead me to take, of all things, "Typing" a skill I now use everyday.

I don't miss those old Selectrics we practiced on, though at the time, I thought they were awfully impressive.

I've been going round and round with hoss just trying to get Apache installed the glorious event happened around 0200 this morning). It's running Debian, a little more knowledge about Linux would be nice. On the plus side I know what repositories are and how to use them :D.

Last night I spent hours trying to come up with a suitable 'Jeff Portnoy' avatar in the style of the one I made for catttitude (above) but so far all I have is 260 second-by-second screencaps of the Water Buffalo scene and animated gifs which FAR EXCEED livejournal's size usage.

Back to the drawing board!
