To Play the Game

So the cover art to Breaking Dawn has been leaked. I'm not posting any links since it's not officially released.

A chess board with two pieces. A White Queen in the foreground and a Red Pawn further back in the shadows.

I love all the Twilight Series covers and for the most part accept that they don't have much meaning regarding the plots. However, ( Read more... )

Well I still don't want that to happen, but I can't fault your excellent meta there--very interesting and well done! :) Thanks for the insight about "Alice in Wonderland," I never read them....

Thanks Katharine! Definitely should read them both! So many other literary and screen stories draw upon them, having read them really adds new layers and meanings.

Yeah, I know some basics (like the two queens, walrus/carpenter, jabberwocky) from the movie and a children's production of it I was in in high school (I was the executioner, lol), but it sounds like there's still a lot more to know! :)

I can't understand them, besides, I don't want to sound like another Ayn, but I actually think that her ethics of self betterment, better all of humanity in the long run,I mean, selfishness may sound downright evil, but in the bigger picture it might be good for the progress of the collective, because it follows evolution's maxims.

YOU my dear, rock my world!!

"The Red Pawn was Bella. The White Queen is Bella."

Wow I really enjoyed reading this, I hadn't actually thought about Alice in Wonderland/Through The Looking Glass as comparison. I read these a very long time ago. I may have to read them again :p

Woohooo!!! I ROCKED LELOO! I'm making my self an award to commemorate this! ;) *hug*

It's been a while for me as well. And I don't know the books in and out, but I can usually pick up on when imagery is alluding to them. *heart* I say read Breaking Dawn first, then if I'm right, you could read them for new insight to Twilight. :D

Plus, they’re classic-ish and SM does like literature alice & wonderland / through the looking glass- i don’t know why these could be related, but i read these somewhere as ideas possibly being the second inspiration i don’t know, well, anything about chaucer or faulkner… but i thought of them when i was rereading twilight… if anybody can make a connection between something they wrote and BD Guschtl July 11th, pm : It’ so mean.

Oh, that would so make perfect sense.

I always thought that there was more to the cover arts than just pretty pictures but anything I've read so far didn't exactly make sense. Until now. I did have my own little thoughts, that pretty much go in the same direction as what you've said.

I couldn't resist and checked out these spoiler posts a couple of days ago when the cover and parts of that first chapter were leaked. I don't really mind spoilers much. The cover art sounds like it'll look really cool.

I've never read Alice in Wonderland / Through the Looking Glass but I do have the book floating around somewhere. But I saw the movie, cartoon rahter, so I remember th basics. Your analysis makes truly perfect sense to me; it would only be logical if it all happens like this. And, honestly, Bella becoming a vampire would be the only option for me that would bring the books to a good end.

Thanks Katie!! *hugs*

The Ribbon is the one that struck me the most. Through all of Eclipse, I kept thinking it meant Bella would be turned somewhere within since it was almost cut. LOL! I was disappointed I was wrong, but I guess the fact that Bella, like the ribbon, was still hanging on to human life makes a lot of sense.

OMG! I haven't seen the cartoon in ages! *hearts* So much fun, but the cartoon is only the Alice in Wonderland story though. Since the two stories are usually put into one book, I call them all by Alice since it's much easier to say and more people will recognize. But what I quoted actually all comes from Through the Looking Glass.

Thanks so much on the analysis!!!! *hugs* I was amazed how well the direct quotes could be interpreted to the Twilight events. And I would be thrilled for it to go this way and Bella to become a vampire. *megahearts*

The previous one would show me that I'm not too logical now, would it. Crying while watching movies.

This is truly amazing, i cant believe you were able to think of all that! But I do have another riddle for you to solve. If you have read the preface and the back cover of breaking dawn, this is something you could probably figure out. On the back cover she says how she realizes her words are true when she says they were meant to be together. But she already knew this about Edward, she says she realizes that in New Moon, so, does that mean she is talking to Jacob? And then in the preface it says that she couldnt run from this, but she had wanted to be a vampire, so does that mean that now she is having second thoughts? and then i read your theories, and it contributes, she wanted to be a vampire, but now is she having second thoughts, only its too late to turn back...also the whole midsummers night dream thing just further confirms that horrifying theory that she is confused about who she loves, and that she'll end up as Jacob. oh, and something just occured to me... in the first chapter she says how the friendship between Edward and ( ... )
